Dutch designer Mattijs van Bergen is celebrated for his curvaceous shion and freshly feminine designs. On February 5 he closed Amsterdam Fashion week with a show at the Heineken Music Hall that stunned the media and turned into the biggest event of the week.
Named one of the most promising young designers (British Vogue), and Crown prince of Dutch Fashion (Dutch Elle), Mattijs van Bergen showed two collections that emphasized quality tailoring and detailing, one of which was designed in collaboration with clothing brand Aaiko.
The footwear for the show was especially designed by United Nude in collaboration with Mattijs. An exclusive limited edition of these Mattijs x United Nude shoes will be available from United Nude in spring 2012.
United Nude prides itself on being one of the most collaborative design companies in the shion world today, working together with new and upcoming designers as well as world renowned names to create surprising and original looks that fuse together different talents and ideas. The collaboration with Mattijs was United Nudes 2nd collaboration this year, with the 3rd to be launched later this month.
Rem D Koolhaas, Creative Director United Nude, said: Mattijs and United Nude have been talking about collaborating for a while and now was the right time. Even though this is already our third collaboration with a Dutch designer this year, we went for it. Joining forces in the creative field is part of the United Nude spirit and we are proud to be perhaps one of the most collaborative brands in the industry.

Mattijs van Bergen (1980) launched his label MATTIJS in 2008. He studied for a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the Institute of Fine Arts in Arnhem, The Netherlands and followed with a Masters Degree at the Central Saint Martins College in London. His neoclassical designs are defined by a distinctive use of color, high quality brics and fine craftsmanship. The clothes are shion forward, but are a constant source of elegance. Shapely tailoring and sculptural pleating define the labels signature style, and Mattijs continues to develop his brands distinctive identity to the delight of his loyal following. Really interesting, Flockr must be the first pop-up pavilion of its kind ever created, designed for a location in Beijing by Solid Objectives.
From the Architects:
Get It Louder, an acclaimed biannual media and arts festival sponsored by Modern Media of China, features a series of lectures, screenings and exhibitions by over one hundred Chinese and foreign designers, artists, writers and filmmakers. Organized by an international team including Chinese curator and writer Ou Ning and design writer Aric Chen, this years theme SHARISM focuses on the relationship between public and private realms in the digital age. SO IL was commissioned to design Get It Louders main pavilion, which serves as a central hub for the event and houses many of the festivals activities.
SO IL conceived the Flockr Pavilion as a structure that responds to its environment while also creating a sense of place through its basic form. Covered with thousands of tinted mirrored panels, the skin reflects its surroundings and makes the changing contexts of this temporary and mobile installationthe cityscapes of Beijing and Shanghai an integral part of its expression. In SO-ILs experimental çade, only the top of each panel is attached to the structure, allowing the individual pieces to respond to wind and creating a kinetic skin that is permeable by light and air. The pavilions structure is made out of 56 thin, flexible steel rods that connect at the bottom and the top into two large steel rings. The larger bottom ring frames the interior perimeter of the structure while the smaller top ring creates a skylight; the relationship between the two results in the pavilions curvilinear womb-like shape. The activities that take place within are gently enclosed by a dynamic pattern of thousands of flickering reflections. Because it is circular in plan and curvilinear in section, the pavilion does not discriminate any direction; once passing through the entryway, the interior is generous and encompassing.
The structure was assembled within six days on location in Beijing and demounted and reinstalled within a weeks time for its use in Shanghai.so-il.org
